One day I painted the perched town St Jeannett, had lunch, then continued driving up into the Alps. Excited by an exceptional evening light effect, I stopped to paint Les Freres, even as I was dreading the tiring 3 hour drive yet to make to my lodging in Valbonne. Taken with the Alps, however, I decided to risk that I could find an affordable room nearby, which would enable me to paint in the Alps earlier the next morning. After driving many miles, I was lucky to find the last room anywhere around, and enjoyed dessert with friendly French alpine walkers. The change in plans doubled my night's lodging cost but I was rewarded with adventure and the opportunity to paint this perched town in the morning light I so prefer. My delightful morning was further enhanced by friendly visits from a few local residents.
